Hurdle in Academic Field
You might be under the impression that hurdles in the context of discrediting each other can only occur in the business field or in companies where the employees compete with each other to fight for certain position. In fact, you are TOTALLY WRONG! Even in the educational field it still happens eventhough the position or the carrier as a teacher or lecturer is not lucrative. So I have experienced this when I was promoted to directly pursue PhD programme because my magistrate index score was more than 3.75. I was totally blocked on behalf of the department meeting that conluded I couldn't further study without any clear reason. However, I released my expactation to take PhD programme.Lately, I have been blocked again to teach a subject - neuroanatomy. Neuroanatomy is a field that I have mastered and I have written books titled "Jaras-jaras Neuroanatomi" published by Sagung Seto and "Basic Neuroanatomical Pathways" published by Balai Penerbit FKUI as well as 2 neuroanatomy lecture on VCD's and 1 interactive lecture on CD. From 2001-2005 I got the authority to set up the neuroanatomy module and to become the resource person; however, suddenly I was just blocked without any reason and I was set aside. WHY? Most people think that they envy or intend to get the royalty share from my works.... it might be yes or it might be no. However, from the royalty share or the whole income from my teaching activity can be donated to the department. Teaching is my dedication and I am making a living not from teaching. It's my pure dedication. Their reason was when I took a magistrate programme, I changed my major to histology to prepare my PhD programme whose research was directed to microanatomy and biomolecular. So you can see how difficult it is to dedicate to the educational field eventhough it doesn't promise any financial profit. However, unethical competition still happens. Not to mention the matters of corrpution, collusion, and nepotism............ There are still a lot of things that I constrict myself not to tell you. "KKN" is quite common in a family run company but "KKN" in a teacing institution is totally embarrassing. I would like to extend my credit and my admiration to Rhenald Khasali that says in his book he often experiences hurdles in the educational field (FEUI). However, he managed very well to react with those unfavourable conditions and finally reached success... his last book "RECODE" has inspired me to sturggle more.
